Parish councillors, and their Areas of Responsibility

Parish Councils consist of councillors who work as volunteers and in an honorary capacity. They are supported by the Parish Clerk who is secretary to the Council and advises them on matters of parish processes and responsibilities. In Freshford, all councillors and the Clerk have specific functions in addition to their collective responsibility - these are tabled below.

Parish councils are, within the constraints of law and its effect on local government structure, responsible to their residents and to their residents only. Freshford's council is, by choice, non party political.

A Government White Paper will be considered this summer in which a discussion proposal is that parish councils' powers and responsibilities could be extended. Should this lead to a change in current arrangements we shall advise residents. Any queries re our current functions should be addressed to the Parish Clerk.

The parish council may be contacted using our online form.
