Major work is required to stabilise the slope and retaining wall of the A36 at Limpley Stoke. This work will commence on Monday 31st March 2008, and last for a period of approximately 12 weeks. Full closure of the A36 will be required, resulting in diversions for through traffic, and restrictions for local traffic.
More information is available on the scheme's website, and by reading their published leaflet. A map of the road closures is also available. A set of gates will be set up, limiting access to some roads around the works to prevent rat-running. Local residents will be issued with permits allowing them to pass through the gates without being stopped. These permits, and more information about the closures, will be posted to residents before the works start. The No94 bus will operate to a new time-table throughout the duration of the works.

28th March: Work at Limpley Stoke will commence on Monday 31st March and will continue for up to 12 weeks, during which time the A36 will be closed to through-traffic. For the first 3 weeks there will be strictly no access between the B3108 (to Bradford-on-Avon) and Brassknocker Hill, due to the necessary relocation of a gas main. After the first 3 weeks light vehicles only will be able to use the B3108 / Brassknocker Hill route during the daytime and traffic will be controlled by 3-way signals to ensure a steady flow of vehicles in and out of the junction. We will need to close the road at night to complete piling work at Monkton Combe, this will be at 19:00 and it will re-open at 07:00. The section of the A36, by Waterhouse Lane, will remain totally inaccessible to through-traffic for 12 weeks.
As you may be aware gatehouses are going to be installed on the A36 at Beckington, at the junction with the A366 and at Bathampton. Gatehouse staff will re-direct genuine through-traffic and advise drivers that the A36 is closed at Limpley Stoke. We have distributed badges to residents and businesses in the immediately affected area, to ease passage through the gatehouses at certain times of day. Badges will not, however, allow road users through the work site at any time and all drivers with a valid reason (whether or not they possess a badge) will, of course, be waved through the gatehouses.
We are being advised that several residents are yet to receive “identity badges” – even though we have sent out around 5000 so far. All queries regarding badges will be dealt with as soon as we receive the new batch of badges, which are expected on Monday. Once again, note that badges are not required to get through the gates, they merely ease passage during busy periods.
26th March: The timetable for the No.94 bus during the works is now available.
